TMS wrestlers had a great season that wrapped up in the beginning of December. We had two home wrestling quads, where our wrestlers did a great job competing and representing TMS. In the tournaments that they competed in, we had at least two placers in every competition. We had a group of 20+ student-athletes work very hard throughout the year and showed a lot of progress.
TMS Girls Basketball
Our 7th and 8th grade basketball seasons wrapped up in the beginning of December as well. Our 8th grade girls competed all season and had a couple of wins. They caught some tough breaks, but we are confident that they will continue to improve. Our 7th grade girls had a phenomenal season. They were the #2 seed in the KVL middle school tournament out of 11 schools. They beat Basehor-Linwood and Mill Creek on their way to the championship game, where they lost to Piper. It is very exciting to think about the future of this group of girls at THS!
TMS Boys Basketball
Our 7th and 8th grade basketball season began just before winter break. We had over 60 boys out for basketball so we have 7A, 7B, 8A and 8B teams. Our 8th grade boys have come out playing very well, with wins over Leavenworth Warren and Monticello Trails. Our 7th graders are working on a lot of fundamentals and disciplined basketball right now, but we are confident that some wins are coming their way. Come out and watch our boys play. We have home games almost every Tuesday and Thursday through February.
THS Girls Basketball
Our girls are really fun to watch because they play so hard together and truly enjoy each other! It is fun to see them executing plays and communicating well together and they play hard from the tipoff to the finish! I attribute their great attitudes and effort to the outstanding effort of Coach Claycamp and his staff. They are not getting the results they want or deserve, but they come to work every day and they make Turner proud with their effort!
THS Boys Basketball
The pride of the basketball program lies in its future! While the varsity continues to make strides and show that they can frustrate and compete with even the best teams around, they have started to call up some freshmen from the 8-win freshmen team! The group of freshmen look great and they are starting to make their impact at the upper levels already! Coach Crusoe is working hard to build this program from the lower classes up and combined with this middle school group coming up, look out for the boys to make a big splash over the next couple years!
THS Boys Swimming
Calvin Denson has qualified for state in several events! We are ending the season with 11 boys, which is the most we have completed the season with in 3 years. We have a great freshmen class in numbers and high quality swimmers that are dedicated to the sport and improving! We also took 3rd place as a team at the Lawrence Free State Invitational (this is the best non-conference finish as a team in 3 years!) Coach Martin and his staff have this team rolling! Every day they are in the pool, I have to wait patiently for him to stop coaching to get a word in with him, because he is that dedicated to his student-athletes!
The Girls team (who qualified for state last year as a team!) earned second place in their first tournament this year and have lots of positive things to be excited about for the this very young season as they strive to earn a second straight team state berth!
The Boys team is building up their top 6 but they have a couple returning state individuals who are making waves already! Again, the season is young but the boys are off to a great start!
Our team has nearly a full line-up and is ready to start competing beyond simple individual goals and can start thinking about the team score again! They are solid from top to bottom and have a half-dozen boys who can legitimately state that they can place at state in a month! It is very exciting to watch them compete!
Our girls will be hosting the first ever United Kansas Conference Girls Championship on February 4th right up here at the THS Gymnasium! There will be approximately 40 girls on hand from our fellow conference schools and we are excited to host this event! Additionally, this is the first year for an official KSHSAA state girls wrestling meet and we hope to have a couple girls qualify for that.
